Your first visit will consist of a thorough evaluation from a licensed therapist. The evaluation will consist of detailed history of injury/surgery, pain levels and how the diagnosis has affected your life. Further tests of range of motion, strength, tissue mobility, and overall function will be performed. A treatment plan will be implemented as well as goals for recovery.
We suggest wearing comfortable loose clothing, something you can move around easily in such as sweats, leggings, shorts, tshirts or tank tops. If coming for a shoulder or knee injury, having the joint exposed will be more beneficial to you and your therapist for a complete evaluation. Lastly, good supportive shoes are a must for special tests such as walking, running, balance or exercise.
Visits vary from patient to patient depending on goals, progress met, diagnosis and patients needs. Most often can meet goals within 4-10 visits. Here at CGPT we often see patients weekly with faster and better results.
No, physical therapy should not hurt or cause pain during treatments. Sometimes you may experience discomfort but is tolerable to the patient. It is common to be sore the next day after your session due to retraining your body to meet your goals.
